Join us for a guided experience exploring the incredible works featured in this year’s auction. Host Barbara Pfaffenberger will share insights on artworks created by emerging and established artists from Hawaiʻi and beyond, enabling participants to gain a deeper understanding of the works through fun and engaging conversation.

The Donkey Mill Art Center’s 15th annual art auction, CONVERGENCE, celebrates the power of the arts to bring people, ideas and perspectives together in unity to inspire individual and collective well-being. Presenting over 75 works by emerging and established artists from Hawai’i and beyond, auction artworks include an exceptional selection of ceramics, paintings, kapa, photographs, prints, lauhala, jewelry and more!

At the Mill, safety is our priority. During this time, tour groups will be limited to six participants, physical distancing will be observed and masks are required. Mahalo nui for your diligence in keeping our community safe.

Barbara Pfaffenberger was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and grew up exploring the Carnegie Museum of Art where she developed a lifelong love of art and museums. In 1993, she trained to be a docent at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. For the next nineteen years, she gave tours of both The Modern’s post-war art collection and architecture tours of Tadao Ando’s elegant concrete and glass structure which became the museum’s home in 2002. Seeing the need for an expanded art viewing experience for adults, Barbara created and taught a course for Texas Christian University’s Continuing Education Program called Art Smart. Upon moving to Hawaiʻi Island in 2012, she became a member of the Donkey Mill Art Center ʻohana. It is her passion and belief that interacting with art leads to a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world in which we live.
COVERGENCE: Annual Art Auction is made possible through the generous support of fiscal sponsors: 2021 Stand For the Arts Award by Ovation TV and Charter Communications, BREW, West Hawaii Community Health Center, and in-kind donations by Kona Trans and Pictures Plus.
