Class Description:
Cory Lum is a master thrower and loves to make his own tools to help form his unique vessels. In this workshop, students will explore designing and making their own custom tools for throwing and clay work. Students will learn about various hardwoods, shaping techniques and learn to design tools that will last beyond our lifetime. Students will use some power tools such as hand & belt sanders, rasps, kutall and a jigsaw to form and shape tools that are ergonomically designed for the artist's hand. Students will be encouraged to brainstorm while thinking outside of the box to create tools that are amazing functionally and beautiful to look at.

Studio time will consist of digital slide lectures and various images of working tools with an introduction of actual examples of the various tools that can be created. For inspiration, Cory Lum will share his personal collection of  handmade tools as examples and demonstrate how the tools are designed to be used.
