Description:
“It seems to me that artists need to assume the role of a teacher in order to fulfill their full potential in society. An artist has a gift of being able to think and act creatively. These are the attributes most needed in our chaotic world. It is so important to have a useful role to play other than decorating surfaces or making money. We need to be leaders, sages, healers, prophets and teachers.”

George Woollard grew up in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. His father was a  geophysicist and a devoted teacher and his mother had a deep appreciation for beautiful things. Woollard received a BA in painting and then an MFA in printmaking at the University of Hawaii, Manoa. After traveling abroad he got a teaching  fellowship at the Lacoste School of the Arts in southern France.
Woolard’s work can be found in the collections of the Honolulu Museum of Art, The Hawaii State Art Museum, The Persis Collection, The University of Hawaii, The State Foundation on Culture and Art, Queens Hospital, Kaiser Foundation, HMSA, The Four Seasons Resort, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Disney Resorts, Exxon Corp., The Biblioteque Nationale des Art, Paris, France and numerous private collections both here in Hawaii and abroad.
George Woollard received fifteen Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Art purchase awards, Pillsbury artist’s fellowship to Cite Internationale  des Arts in Paris, France, Russel Davenport award at the Artists of Hawaii (top painting award), Best in Show award by Hawaii Watercolor Society, Artists of Hawaii, Jim Winters three dimensional award (top award in sculpture), John Young Award (top award in printmaking), Honolulu Printmakers Annual Exhibition award and others.
