Class Description:  Learn hand-building on a new scale from visiting sculptural ceramic artist Peter Durst. Throughout the course of this 10-week class, Peter will demonstrate the making of houses, boats, water towers and arches, both on a large and small scale using the tools and techniques of slab roller, extruder and wheel. Glazes and underglazes, and the making and application of ceramic decals using a computer and laser jet printer will also be discussed. Individualized attention will be given to help students bring their pieces to fruition.
 
Bio:

Peter Durst has been a potter, ceramist, and sculptor for the past 40 years and has exhibited his work nationally in galleries, art centers, museums, private collections and public spaces.  After receiving a B.A. in political science from Allegheny college and a J.D. from NYU School of Law, Peter became interested in pottery and ceramics and discovered the Anderson Ranch in Snowmass, Colorado.  After getting a grounded ceramics education and developing his skills there for two years, he moved to Denver, Colorado and opened his first studio.  He has maintained Durst Studio, Gallery and Sculpture Garden since 1990 where he makes and shows his work and others’.  Since 2001 he has taught classes through the Art Students League of Denver.  More recently, Peter has become a part-time resident of the big island of Hawaii, where he has a studio and teaches at the Donkey Mill Art Center in Holualoa, Hawaii.
  
Supply fee includes: One 25lb bag of sculpture clay, DMAC glazes and underglaze products, bisque, glaze firing and decal sheets.
 
Students should bring:
We have community ceramic tools to use but you may wish to bring your favorites (with your name on them!) if you have them
Dress to get muddy!
