The Introduction to the Wheel class is a structured approach to achieving a foundational understanding of the potters wheel. In this course you will begin to build your repertoire of forms while learning to throw, trim, decorate, and glaze cups, bowls, cups with handles, and bottles. 

Syllabus:
Week 1- Studio Policy, Introductions, Cylinder Demo
Week 2- Trimming Cylinder, Pulling/Attaching Handles, Bowl Demo
Week 3- Bowl Trimming Demo, Bottle Vase demo
Week 4- Bottle Vase Trimming, Glazing Talk/Demo-Last Day to Throw - Bisque Before         
Week 5-Glaze Day, Glaze Fire Before Next Class
Week 6- Critique

Instructor bio: 
Sandy Sater also known as Kani of Hawaii, creates images in oil as well as hand crafting artisanal ceramic pieces, all of which are an expression of her love for the island of Hawaii. Sandy began her career as an artist after graduating from Cal Arts with a BFA in ceramics. In 1978, she arrived in Hawaii with all her ceramic equipment where she maintained several ceramic businesses focused on porcelain ware and raised her family. Sandy is currently involved in creating intricate ceramic tile work for swimming pools as well as establishing her own pottery line. Her work can be found in more than 10 galleries around the island. Supply fee includes:
One 25lb bag of clay
DMAC glazes and underglaze products, bisque and glaze firing
 
Students should bring:
Tool List (Due to Covid 19 Safety precautions students will have to being their own tools)
Dress to get muddy!
A towel for wiping your hands
3 gallon bucket with lid if you want to save your clay
Notebook/Sketchbook
